I have to admit that I could scroll endlessly through the museumnext website drooling at all of the inspiring projects. Click on the picture below to view the the prezi I made to show real-life examples of the institutional goals supported by new hyperlinked technologies.

Hi Sarah, I LOVED this Prezi!! Really excellent use of this medium, the videos were well curated and kept my interest. I liked exploring each of the bubbles and found myself really engaged. The video discussing the smallest mollusk museum and the 15 exhibits in 6 feet was riveting and so cunning when she says, “we lure people in by being unexpected”. I thought this was a great example of using spaces that are unexpected for sharing exhibits, with such a small footprint a museum or gallery could exhibit in so many interesting places. What about a great exhibit in your doctors office or the DMV?! You’re basically a captive audience and totally ripe for engagement. The Global Guides at the museum in Philadelphia are also an surprising delight, who could provide an amazing sense of place and context for artifacts that can seem sterile in a museum or archival environment. The examples you’ve choses are excellent illustrations of the concepts of the hyperlinked library, new, almost transgressive use of space and resources, and playful when it comes to the scale and use of unexpected placement and materials.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to explore my post. I’ve kind of been feeling like I’m screaming into the abyss; it’s lonely blogging with no comments. There is so much going on with emerging technologies that I could have gone on and on but I had to stop somewhere. It’s feeling like many technologies are developed to the point that they are becoming seamless and can really feel immersive, as opposed to obvious and clunky (like old bad CGI in movies). I’m excited to see how they transition into the LIS sphere.

Wow, Sarah, this is such a fabulous presentation of materials!! Thank you for sharing in such a fun, clear manner how the institutional goals are being supported by these various hyperlinked technologies. I have definitely missed visiting museums “in person”, and I really had no prior knowledge about the use of these technologies in those spaces, especially the use of AR — that short video where the painting of the horse comes to life! Wow! What an enriching experience that would be. Also, the micro museum concept is completely amazing and I LOVED that she said the words “At MICRO, the goal is really to reach people where they already are” — that is what I think this is all about, right? Thank you again for sharing, and I am going to try to avoid spending the rest of my day on MuseumNext! -Helen

Thank you so much Helen. I feel out of the museum-tech loop myself. There’s so much new cool stuff being used and even more on the horizon. I also fell in love with the micro-museum. What a perfect concept, a bite-sized museum experience that comes to you. And I loved that they focused their first efforts on mollusks when one partner misheard the other… he said let’s make the “smallest museum” and she heard “mollusk museum” so they decided to make it both!
