It’s been a memorable time to start graduate school, to put it mildly. In August, I had no real concept of what an information community was and picked passionate home cooks mainly because cooking and thinking about food was keeping me sane in a house with small children, and an injury that kept us all stuck mostly inside  As soon as I started writing I had regrets that I had chosen a “boring” group, wishing I had picked amateur sleuths, or another group that was using information to solve real problems. In the end, I think I made the right choice. My feelings of isolation were soothed when researching PHCs and noting that things that I do and assumed were a personal quirk, were actually common among other cooks.  Through my studies, I realized that I am a full-fledged member of this community. Learning about public library culinary programming was really exciting; it’s encouraging to know that information providers are pivoting to keep up with the times. Discovering emerging technologies re-sparked my cooking enthusiasm after months of covid cooking fatigue had set in. I plan to celebrate the winter break by cooking all the complicated things that have caught my eye over the semester that were too much work while juggling my own schoolwork and my kids zoom schooling simultaneously–starting with these hand-pulled noodles!  I hope that everyone has a safe and restful break and that I see some of you in spring semester.
